Can you use the Notre Dame wordpress blogging tool to set up your faculty member websites?  Yes, you can.  In fact, we created a bunch of examples to showcase how this would work.

Even if your professor doesn’t want to blog, they can still use the system to set up the website and just turn off the blogging portion.  It works the same and they can easily update their content without struggling with building their own website using a tool like Dreamweaver and Abode Contribute.

How do you get a blog set-up?  It’s as simple as requesting a FREE blog through http://blogs.nd.edu.

Here are some of the templates.

  1. Awesome templates, Generally i used to build site using Dreamweaver Cs5 or use already made css files.
    Thanks

  2. Thank you for warning of this option. I didn’t know about it before.

  3. I learned some coding using Dreamweaver, years ago. I love the ease of using WordPress to create blogs for posts and blogs that look like traditional websites. Once a person “gets over” the fear of technology, he/she will find that it is very simple to create a blog or site. It’s a wonderful way to communicate with students and the world.

  4. Nice templates. To me Mystique Blog Template is the better one.

  5. WordPress is awesome and i love how flexiable it is. The themes looks nice.

There’s much easier ways to create a website since this post was created. Now people can use a free or low cost website builder to make their own site without doing any programming. There’s a list of good ones available at http://www.easywebsitebuilders.net. Just thought your readers would like to know.

The only problem you have their is that they won’t be sitting on the nd.edu domain. If you use an outside website builder, then you’ll have to get your own domain like .com or .org and you won’t be included in nd.edu’s search unless you specifically ask the library to add you.

Be careful about using outside domain names, it’s difficult to build Search Engine Optimization for their website.

  7. Yeah, very nice templates – clean and simple 😉

  8. Hi Don, just wanted to say that you are right – it would not be on the nd.edu domain and that would be a factor in ranking. Although thats not to say its impossibly hard to achieve a better ranking, just alittle more challenging rather than presenting itself as another difficulty in starting your own blog.

I tend to use Joomla more than WordPress but I have used both and wordpress is a wonderful blogging tool, it has a great selection of SEO based plug-ins as well!

  9. The templates are really nice. I like the clean look which is the Empty Canvas Blog Template. It does not have the large banner or image on top to distract me from the blog contents.
I guess there is no reason why one would have any difficulty setting up their own faculty blog, where all the tools are available.

  10. thank you very much for this valuable help, this will be of great help to position our websites

    regards

  11. WordPress is such a great tool, it makes blog/site creation a breeze! Thanks for the information!

  12. Very nice templates. It looks like a lot of time has been spent to write these. Using these on top of WordPress would yield great results!

  13. All of them are good for creating a faculty site , but i personally liked the Glossy Blue Blog Template. It has professional looks

  14. The themes looks very nice, thanks you for warning of this option 🙂

  15. However, everyone should have a personal blog. This is not only intended for the students, but those who have completed the study should share in knowledge, a bit knowledge is very valuable to others.

I agree with the attractive template that could eventually relieve the boredom. Your invitation very evocative, Don.
